About Aquamation

What Is Pet Aquamation?

Pet aquamation, also known as water cremation or alkaline hydrolysis, is an aftercare process performed after a pet has passed away.

It uses water, controlled warmth, and an alkaline solution to accelerate the natural breakdown of the body without using flame.

At the end of the process, the remaining bone minerals are dried and carefully processed into a fine powder, commonly called ashes.

When the selected service includes the return of remains, these ashes can be kept in an urn or incorporated into a meaningful memorial.

A thoughtful option

Why Families Choose Aquamation.

A Water-Based Alternative

For those who prefer a process without fire, aquamation provides an alternative to traditional flame cremation.

A Lasting Way to Remember

When ashes are returned, families can keep them in an urn or explore suitable memorial keepsakes that honor their companion.

An Environmentally Considerate Option

Aquamation generally uses less energy than flame cremation and avoids the smoke created by combustion.

A Choice That Feels Right for Your Family

There is no single way to grieve or remember. Aquamation gives families another option when making a personal decision about their pet’s final care.

Is aquamation the same as euthanasia?

No. Aquamation is an aftercare process performed after a pet has died. It does not end an animal’s life.

Can my pet’s ashes be returned to me?

Aquamation allows mineral remains to be processed into ashes for return to a family when that option is included in the selected service. Contact Water Wings for details about the arrangements that will be available.

Can aquamation ashes be placed in an urn?

Yes. Aquamation ashes can be kept in an urn or used in suitable memorial keepsakes.
